THE HELMET, SWORD & SHIELD

Was There Possibly Another Way?

"And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.”

Matthew 26:39 (KJV)

The sweeping affirmations, appeals and supplications expressed in the divine text of the Lord’s Garden prayer fully addresses the question of challenge that asks, “Could the atonement for humanity’s eternal sin problem have been resolved in any other way?”

And, obviously the answer that is repeatedly cited across the span of the inspired scriptural record is an emphatic, “No!’

This is an important point that is made definitively clear in the multiple volley of prayer petitions that were presented by the Savior during the excruciating garden ordeal.

As Hebrews 10:4 explicitly cited, the sacred ordinances of sacrifices that were established under the old order were no longer sufficient: “For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.”

Also, as Romans 3:20 sternly declared, mere adherence to the demands of “the Law” was not a sufficiently acceptable resolution: “Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”

Too, as Isaiah 64:6 vividly articulated, it is equally true that there has never been an acceptable measure of human benevolence or humanly-impressive religious sacrifices that has been endorsed  by Heaven to secure the grand blessings of eternal justification.

But, on the contrary we are told: ”But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.”

Therefore, as affirmed by the Holy Scripture and personally re-stated by the Son of God, the only avenue available to secure access to the eternal salvation for lost humanity was/is through the substitutionary sacrifice of the “the Lamb of God,“ the Lord Jesus Christ.

Hence, fully explaining the O.T. prophecy that reviewed and forecast the absolute necessity of the tremendous atoning sacrifice that was made by the Lord Jesus, Hebrews 10:5-7 cited: “Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:

"In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.”

Thus, indeed “No!” The Lord God could not take away the cup of eternal suffering and sacrifice from His Only Begotten Son, if we were to be saved.

Consequently, the ridiculing taunt of mockery that would later be made by His wicked enemies was yet absolutely true.

In Matthew 27:42a, they heartlessly jeered, as the Lord hung on the cruel cross: “He saved others; himself he cannot save.”

And indeed, it is equality true that there are countless many other that are yet echoing their foolish sentiments in these “latter days” of the 21st century.

Are you, too, numbered among them?

Addressing all who choose to remain in this doomed company, the Lord Jesus still invites and beseeches with the merciful hands of loving outreach: “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.” John 5:39-40 (KJV)

  The Book of Rememberance
“Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.” Malachi 3:16
