THE HELMET, SWORD & SHIELD

The Everlasting King

The Lord reigneth; let the people tremble: he sitteth between the cherubims; let the earth be moved.”

Psalms 99:1(KJV)

Even the glorious testimony cited throughout the O.T. inspired record openly affirms to every generation of humanity the impending certainty of the universally dramatic spectacle-event the Lord’s Second Advent.
This wonderful prophetic bible truth is intricately interwoven among the vast lyrical compositions of the volumes of the Psalms.

In fact, it is from those sacred songs are we (“the redeemed”) provided with broader details regarding the physical aspects of spectacular re-entry of the Supreme Sovereign into the central sphere of human affairs.

Moreover, the inaugural graphic scenes describing His exaltation to the highest pinnacle seat of honor and authority to which rightly belongs to Him.

Hear the amazing depiction of the unfolding drama that will accompany the arrival of this pending (i.e., also as has been foreshadowed in the past) magnificent moment in Psalms 97:1-4: ”The Lord reigneth; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles be glad thereof.

“Clouds and darkness are round about him: righteousness and judgment are the habitation of his throne.
“A fire goeth before him, and burneth up his enemies round about.

“His lightnings enlightened the world: the earth saw, and trembled. The hills melted like wax at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. “

Here we should note that rarely do the words of this vivid depiction keenly grab our attention in the same astonishing fashion as do the parallel detail prophetic heaven-view presentations that are later described in the book of Revelation.

Nevertheless, the same intervening disruptive nature that is plainly showcased in these scenes will be no less pronounced.

Again, the descriptive imagery framed in verses 3-4, vividly and memorably paint on the canvass of our minds: “A fire goeth before him, and burneth up his enemies round about. His lightnings enlightened the world: the earth saw, and trembled.”

THE EVERLASTING KING

Unlike the passing reign of earthly monarchs and governing leaders, the Lord is the Eternal Sovereign.
Again, stressing the point concerning Him in verse 7, we read, “Who would not fear thee, O King of nations? for to thee doth it appertain: forasmuch as among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like unto thee.”

Throughout the record of Scripture, the Lord explains to us and repeatedly reminds us that at some future moment He will return to the earth and lay claim to the domain that He created.

Openly inwardly compelled to testify about the surety of the fact that God is the Supreme Sovereign and highlighting the lofty nature of His royal credentials, the greatest of all earthly rulers (King Nebuchadnezzar) humbly declared, “Nebuchadnezzar the king, unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth;

"Peace be multiplied unto you. I thought it good to shew the signs and wonders that the high God hath wrought toward me. How great are his signs! and how mighty are his wonders! his kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion is from generation to generation.” Dan 4:1-3 (KJV)

In the closing words of verse 37 he added, “Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase. “

The record of history (biblical and secular) unquestionably proves that the Lord reigns supreme over all who seek to oppose Him.

Although visibly it may not presently appear to be the case, even in our contemporary era with its vast arsenals of modern weaponry and other inventions of warfare, there is none that can rival the unimaginable might of the Everlasting King.

The Scriptures rightly, openly boasts concerning His exalted station in Isaiah 40:15-17, “Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing. And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt offering.
“All nations before him are as nothing; and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity.”

This being the case it is totally appropriate that we join the Psalmist in praise of the Everlasting King to whom he gladly exclaimed, “Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness. Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King. “ (Psalms 48:1-3)

Now despite the concert of voices from the unbelieving world that collectively unite to arguably protest this indisputable reality, the Lord is “King of Kings” and “Lord of Lords” and one day will appear before the universe adorned in the glorious splendor of His majestic attire.

The glorious testimony of Psalms 93:1-2 declares to us: “The Lord reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the Lord is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved.

“Thy throne is established of old: thou art from everlasting.”

Again, the point of personal consideration greatly relevant to this bible truth is the searching, pressing question, “With whom have you placed the allegiance of your life, and your soul?”

Is the Lord Jesus, (the King of Glory) the saving Sovereign of your life, and the King of your soul?
