Recall, the insightful details provide to through the inspired testimony of Stephen explains to us regarding Moses’ former impressions of his special role were thus in Acts 7:25, “For he supposed his brethren would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them: but they understood not.”
But if the truth be told, he really did not really grasp the fuller view of the grand, paramount matter that he thought he understood.
However, before we point a finger of recrimination at Moses, it behooves us also to take a good look in the reflecting mirror behold that same finger of conviction also pointing straight at us as well.
And over the span of the past forty years what Moses thought that he understood about the will of God had to be completely dismissed or jettisoned from his mind and consciousness.
Rightly, he had some idea regarding Kingdom matters; however, until the time came for him to be brought into the sacred sanctum of the King’s Heavenly Counsel, he could only obscurely perceive fragment glimpses of divine light.
And similarly, such is the also the case with respect to us. Commonly, based on our knowledge and observations of church life and routine activities, we presumptively far too many of us assume that we know what our role is advancing Kingdom purpose; however, often remorsefully and disappointedly, many of us (like Moses abruptly discover; that our assumptions were also grossly erroneous.
Moreover, (again like Moses), we are never shown our true appointed operational place in the Kingdom plan until, we have passed through the same soul-forging, self-emptying experience that had gradually brought him to this pivotal, climactic, transitional moment in his life.
And, at the astonishing moment of discovery, we are granted to understand the immense, broader scope of Heaven’s Agenda of Redemption, and more immediately the scope of its tangible aims and practical outworking in our present generation.
The critical points that the Lord communicate to Moses regarding becoming involved in the honored sphere of spiritual servanthood were:
- God’s work always begins/originate with God – engagement in the realm of true spiritual service never has anything to do about the accomplishment of self-will.
- God must clearly reveal His pre-established plan of service to us and explain the scope of our roles and responsibilities as they pertain to our appointed assignment. He does not expect us to know “what we are supposed to do.”
- Our primary role in the plan of God is simply to listen, learn and obey (execute). We must never presume that we can anticipate and intuitively foresee the details of the unfolding of divine will, because actually we cannot.
At best, our vision is routinely characterized by the model depiction described in 1 Corinthians 13:12a, “For now we see through a glass, darkly.”
Hence, we must routinely remain in close fellowship with the Lord as He gradually directs us along the unseen path of spiritual service that we have been appointed to traverse.
At the end of this initial introductory divine discourse the Lord officially issued Moses his orders and directives of divine commission.
In verse 10, He declared to him: “Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.”
And likewise, every Christ follower has been given our “marching orders” as well. In Matthew 28:19-20, we are also charged: “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
“Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
As such our primary life responsibility is to continually stay in complete alignment with His will; and dutifully obey the holy directive found in His Word. For this is the primary means whereby we can hear His voice.
In kindred fashion, the Lord has affirmed and promised us in Psalms 32:8, “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.”
