We should never believe that we have been left to rely on our own human resources to accomplish the divine commission that has been entrusted to us.
In Acts 1:8 the Lord Jesus had fully explained to the Disciples (and us) that supernatural endowments would be fully provided of them to be able to perform the daunting task of the Holy Commission for which they (we) were appointed.
He declared: “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
And here in similar fashion, we observe that the Lord God is not only revealing to Moses the reality of his supernatural endowments, but too, provided him with a personal demonstration of their sheer immensity.
Hence, he was not only assured of being accompanied by God’s wonderful presence; too, he was practically shown the magnitude of prevailing divine power that was at his disposal.
We too (Christ followers) have been entrusted with the supernatural resources of divine power and authorized to deploy them in the execution of our sphere of spiritual service.
In 1 John 4:4 the Lord assuredly affirms to us: “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”
And in Ephesians 3:20, we are promptly reminded: “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.”
SIGNS OF CONFIRMING WITNESS
The demonstration of the two miracles not only made Moses aware of what was at his disposal; but the directional instructions imposed during their exercise reminded him that he must remember that God’s power must only be wielded under divine directive.
In other words, the critical importance of the commands: “Cast it on the ground…” and “put forth thine hand and take it by the tail” were just as vital as knowing that at God’s command: “it became a serpent.”
Interestingly, in both instance that enormity of the power that was displayed introduced the paramount elements of life and death into present sphere for prompt consideration.
Thus, assuredly by the manifestations of each the human mind would be compelled to fully recognize that there was nothing foolish or frivolous about matter at hand.
The venomous bite of the serpent would bring immediate and painful death; and the final stage imagery of leprosy would bring to mind the excruciating agony of the terminal miseries of such a dire state.
In the miracle of the leprous hand, the Lord demonstrates to us His power over the most extreme condition of sin that permeates our entire being (i.e., body and soul).
This particular miracle was intended to be shown solely before “the redeemed,” because the war against “indwelling sin” is a conflict only confined within our ranks.
There is no such conflict in the sphere of the wicked. Sin both dominates completely and permeates fully.
THE THIRD MIRACLE OF WATER & BLOOD
The final miracle of transforming water into blood demonstrated God power and purpose to bring judgment and death upon the Egyptians.
As has been commented, this miracle was not performed amidst the Israelites during the meeting of confirmation; but was unleashed as the first plague upon the land of Egypt as God began to manifest is almighty power among them.
However, in every instance and situation we are shown the key role of the dominating presence of divine in the spheres of redemption (Israel) and judgment (upon Egypt).
Herein we (Christ followers) are reminded of the supernatural sphere wherein “we live, move and have our being.”
